May 2 Prayer

Regions/UUPGs: Thank You for the woman in Tozeur who has read a lot of the Bible. We pray this Ramadan that she would be reminded of it and would see that the word is living and active. May she engage friends and family with the Bible as well.

Petition from a Tunisian Believer: I am a Christian. I live in a poor neighborhood in Tunis. I recently lost my job and I cannot pay my expenses. Please pray that I will be able to find a job where I can also share my faith.

Pray Hebrews 11 for Tunisia: “By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible.” (Hebrews 11:27) Fear is a powerful weapon of the enemy in Tunisia. As You draw men and women to Yourself, Lord, help them fix their eyes on You instead of on their fears.

Petition Against Spiritual Barriers: In nearly every Tunisian home, good luck charms are hung. Tails of fish, the “hand of Fatima”, and Koranic verses are hung over the doors for protection against evil spirits and the evil eye. Students wear necklaces and have key chains with amulets because they trust these charms will help them succeed on exams. Mothers pin charms on their babies’ clothes to protect them. Brides put “henna” on their hands and feet before the wedding to protect their marriage. Pray for new Christians as they stand up to the culture that pressures them to use these charms for protection. Pray that they will put their trust in God and be free of the reliance on charms. In the Old Testament, Ezekiel wrote against false prophets who used amulets. ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against your magic charms with which you ensnare people like birds and I will tear them from your arms; I will set free the people that you ensnare like birds.” (Ezekiel 13:20)

Praise the One True God: The LORD alone is Savior. You are Your people’s strength, song, and salvation. (Exodus 15:2) “The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.”
